Nike Begins Buildout In West Midtown

Nike is taking office space in West Midtown, an area that is quickly developing into Atlanta's next tech hub. Nike has filed commercial alteration permits with the city this week for a new 16,400 square foot space located in Star Metals Offices. The permits include new partitions, lighting and upgrades to mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering systems that can house between 80-100 employees.

The new office will include three “Centers of Excellence,” which will focus on logistics and supply chain, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence and machine learning. The company is hiring several technology-focused positions on its website, including a software compliance lead and senior software asset manager. Some positions offer the option to work entirely remotely.

Nike is beginning to build out its space as office tenants and landlords both grapple with a 40-year high level of inflation, fluctuating costs of construction materials and a general uncertainty about long-term real estate commitments. After remote and hybrid work over the past two years, companies are struggling to determine what the future of their office use looks like. Some are downsizing, putting unused space on the office market or signing smaller deals for shorter periods of time, like three-to-five years.

Nike's office is expected to open in 2023.
